BEAR DOWN , CHICAGO BEARS, BEAR DOWN!!!!BEARRRSSSSTBN Radio, Episode 5 Bears-Dolphins postgame: Bogged down in Miami - The Blitz Network - Sometimes reality can set back in at the worst moment. The Bears were riding high after a three-game winning streak and through all faults of their own in Miami, coughed up a very winnable matchup against the Dolphins. Matt Nagy enjoyed curious play-calling. Jordan Howard was a non-factor (again). The NFL's best defense was shredded with an effort reminiscent of previous Bears teams. When it rains, it does pour indeed.Zeglinski: After faltering in Miami, the Bears can only blame themselves - The Blitz Network - In the aftermath of a straining defeat, there's a tendency to veer towards picking a goat to stick the brunt of the blame on. There's one person's mistake that must be magnified above all others. One performance that's glaringly staked out as the reason for failure. It's human nature in the highs and lows of the emotions of a football game. But it also isn't always fair.Stankevitz: Bears come up short in overtime game they didn’t deserve to win - NBC Sports Chicago - The Bears came up short after a wild finish in Miami. Game recap: Bears edged in overtime - - The Bears were unable to protect 21-10 and 28-21 leads Sunday in Miami, losing to the Dolphins 31-28 in overtime.Kaufman: Pace discusses team mentality, depth - - Bears general manager Ryan Pace spoke to play-by-play announcer Jeff Joniak on WBBM Newsradio 780 AM and 105.9 FM prior to Sunday’s game against the Dolphins.Medina: That One Hurt, But Let’s Allow Ourselves to Vent After the Bears Lost a Stupid Football Game - Bleacher Nation - Let it all out, folks.Chicago Bears’ deflating overtime loss puts playoff talk on hold - Chicago Bears Blog- ESPN - Good teams win the games they are supposed to win. Against Miami and Brock Osweiler, the Bears had no sacks and made some crucial mistakes.Bears vs. Dolphins - Game Recap - October 14, 2018 - ESPN - Get a recap of the Chicago Bears vs. Miami Dolphins football game.Haugh: Where Was Boldness That Matt Nagy Promised When Bears Needed It Most? - 670 The Score - Billed as an aggressive innovator, Nagy was conservative when it mattered most.Bernstein: Bears Day Totally Wasted - 670 The Score - The Bears’ loss to the Dolphins had enough “No way!” moments for a whole season.Finley: Matt Nagy defends setting up failed 53-yard FG try in wild loss to Dolphins - Sun Times - Bleary-eyed and far more outwardly upset than he was after the Packers loss, Matt Nagy said he wasn’t going to get into second-guessing.Morrissey: Bears lose a fun, wild game in overtime - Sun Times - It might not have been good for the team you were rooting for and it might not have been good for your heart, but it was good for the soul.Finley: Bears miss field goal, lose wild finish to Dolphins - Sun Times - Three seconds away from a tie, the Dolphins’ Jason Sanders kicked a 47-yard field goal in overtime to beat the Bears 31-28 at Hard Rock StadiumKane: Bears kicker Cody Parkey on missed field goal in overtime - ‘I’m a human being’ - Chicago Tribune - Cody Parkey’s attempt with two minutes to play in overtime missed wide right, and Dolphins rookie kicker Jason Sanders was the one celebrating after making a 47-yarder as time expired for a 31-28 Dolphins victory over the Bears.CampBears defense falls painfully short of elite expectations in perplexing loss to Dolphins - Chicago Tribune - The Bears defense was undone by seemingly uncharacteristic breakdowns and missed tackles in their 31-28 overtime loss to the Dolphins.Biggs: Plenty of blame to go around in a brutal Bears performance across the board - Chicago Tribune - Can you count all the Bears' mistakes? Jordan Howard lost a fumble at the Dolphins 1-yard line in the second quarter. Mitch Trubisky was intercepted in the end zone throwing into double coverage. Tarik Cohen fumbled at midfield with less than two minutes to play and the Bears driving.Wiederer: In closing time, the Bears defense malfunctions to allow an inexcusable long TD - Chicago Tribune - With a golden opportunity to improve to 4-1, the Bears squandered a 28-21 lead in the final minutes Sunday at Miami , allowing a game-tying 75-yard touchdown catch to Miami Dolphins receiver Albert Wilson. The Bears eventually lost 31-28 in overtime.Rosenbloom: If this game against the Dolphins was a test of the Bears’ poise, they failed miserably - Chicago Tribune - Sunday’s game against the Dolphins in Miami would be a barometer of the Bears' maturity, poise and ability to handle success as they went on the road as a favorite. They failed all the tests.Stankevitz: A gassed Bears defense needs to prove loss to Miami was an aberration - NBC Sports Chicago - The Bears defense struggled against a shorthanded Miami offense and will need to prove it was a one-off performance.Mullin: Bears OT loss to Miami proves they are for real – but the real what, exactly? - NBC Sports Chicago - Sunday's Bears loss to Miami was a surprise considering how shorthanded the Dolphins were, but also says a lot about the Bears.Finley: Bears insist TE Trey Burton did nothing wrong on pick play - Sun Times - Bears tight end Trey Burton was flagged for offensive pass interference, and Mitch Trubisky threw an interception on the next play.Finley: Bears CB Kyle Fuller's two interceptions 'something we definitely needed' - Sun Times - In the 31-28 overtime loss to the Dolphins, Kyle Fuller became the first Bears player in four years to pick off two passes in the game.Jahns: Bears QB Mitch Trubisky shows signs of progress in loss - Sun Times - Trubisky threw three touchdown passes and had a 122.5 passer rating against the Dolphins.Jahns: Cody Parkey missed game-winning field goal in overtime - Sun Times - Bears kicker Cody Parkey had a chance to win it for the Bears but he missed a 53-yard field goal.POLISH SAUSAGE**See yesterday’s defensive effort, it has all the polish sausage you need for this morningKNOW THY ENEMYMinnesota Vikings 27, Arizona Cardinals 17: Vikings get second straight win - Daily Norseman - It wasn’t always pretty, but they eventually got thereIN CASE YOU MISSED IT ON WINDY CITY GRIDIRONCurl: Chicago Bears wake up slowly from bye week nap, awkwardly bumble their way to excruciating 31 - 28 loss to Miami Dolphins - Windy City Gridiron - It was another ugly day for the Bears, who kept themselves from win with a few giveaways, some crazy luck, and a lot more mistakes.WCG CONTRIBUTORS BEARS PODCASTS & STREAMS2 Minute Drill - Website - iTunes - Andrew Link; Steven’s Streaming – Twitch – Steven Schweickert; T-Formation Conversation - Website - iTunes - Lester Wiltfong, Jr.; WCG Radio - Website - iTunes - Robert ZeglinskiTHE RULESWindy City Gridiron Community Guidelines - - We strive to make our communities open and inclusive to sports fans of all backgrounds. I’ve got two teams that were able to jump out to a 4-0 start, which allows me to start thinking about the long game. Can I start taking advantage of teams desperate for a win each week who can’t afford to wait on an injury or will swap a player on bye to cover a need? Can I turn two dimes into a quarter by trading from depth to improve the strength of my starting lineup? Can I start buying insurance for those front-line players in case of injury? Can I take advantage of league rules in dynasty / keeper leagues to swipe elite players from the 0-4 or 1-3 teams that are throwing in the towel? The point is, even at 4-0, you need to keep asking yourself how can you set yourself up for success in December. Most of us, including my other two teams, are working on a record other than 4-0. In the WCG tournament, the Peanut Punchers suffered a loss due to my impatience with Corey Davis (on the bench with 30+ points) and an excellent effort by my opponent. That loss dropped my team to 2-2, barely hanging onto a playoff spot. The good news for that squad is the return of Julian Edelman, a late round draft pick I’ve been stashing on my bench. Edelman saw his first action since 2016 (he missed all of 2017 with a torn ACL) after returning from his 4-game suspension. He immediately reasserted himself in the offense, getting tackled at the 1 yard line on one of his 7 catches. Look for him to settle back into his normal WR2 value. The other big returnee this week is Mark Ingram, the New Orleans Saints RB. It will be very interesting to see what his role will be this year as Alvin Kamara is the #1 player in fantasy right now. Will he cut into Kamara’s workload? Almost certainly, but as Kamara is a major piece in both of those aforementioned 4-0 squads, I’m not too worried. If you’ve stashed Ingram and can stand to wait another week, I’d take this weekend to evaluate just how involved they get him out of the gate. The Saints defense has taken a major step back and Brees has been great running the offense through Michael Thomas and Kamara. Expecting Ingram to come in and make an immediate impact may leave you disappointed. The Bears are on bye this week but that doesn’t mean your fantasy squad gets a break. Good luck to all on starting off October on the right foot. What’s on your mind this week? Hit up the comments below or find me on Twitter @gridironborn.
